World Series Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
